CHEW ON THIS: There’s No App for Guilt

Psalm 51
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion,
blot out the stain of my sins.
2 Wash me clean from my guilt.
Purify me from my sin.
3 For I recognize my rebellion;
it haunts me day and night.
4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned;
I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say,
and your judgment against me is just.
7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Oh, give me back my joy again;
you have broken me—
now let me rejoice.
9 Don’t keep looking at my sins.
Remove the stain of my guilt.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a loyal spirit within me.
11 Do not banish me from your presence,
and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.
13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and
they will return to you.
17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

Romans 6
16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of
whatever you choose to obey? You can be a
slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can
choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

When you give yourself over to a particular sin, you become BOUND TO THAT SIN!

Romans 8
1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

John 8
32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

2 Corinthians 7
8 I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you,
though I was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to
you for a little while. 9 Now I am glad I sent it, not
because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you
to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of
sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were
not harmed by us in any way. 10 For the kind of
sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away
from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for
that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks
repentance, results in spiritual death.

Worldly Sorrow: EMPATHY w/o ACTION

Ecclesiastes 8
1…A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.-esv

Romans 6
16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of
whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to
sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to
obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Psalm 3
3But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. -esv

Psalm 32
1 Oh, what joy for those
whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!
2 Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
3 When I refused to confess my sin,
my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.
4 Day and night your hand of discipline was
heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water
in the summer heat.
5 Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to
the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is
gone.

Romans 10
9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is
Lord and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is
by believing in your heart that you are made right
with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth
that you are saved.

CHEW ON THIS: There’s No App for ANGER

Where there is ANGER, There is DANGER

ANGER INJURES your RELATIONSHIPS

Proverbs 15
18 A hot-tempered person starts fights; living. a cool-tempered person stops them.

ANGER IMPRISONS your JUDGMENT

Proverbs 14
17 Short-tempered people do foolish things

Proverbs 14
29 People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.

ANGER is ADDICTIVE

Proverbs 19
19 Hot-tempered people must pay the penalty. If you rescue them once, you will have to do it again.

ANGER is CONTAGIOUS

Proverbs 22
24 Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people,
25 or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul.

Romans 6
16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Ephesians 4
26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

What is the ORIGIN of my ANGER?

James 4
1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?

Mark 7
20 And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you.

Luke 6
45 What you say flows from what is in your heart.

QUESTION #1: What is my UNMET WANT or DESIRE?

James 1
14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

CHEW ON THIS: Jesus Is ______ : Part 6

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.” “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.  If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?  Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.  Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do. (John 14:1-11 NLT)

Note about END-OF-YEAR GIVING

Keystone Friends and Family,

The year of 2011 has been an incredible year in the life of Keystone Church. Through the personal invites of our people, we have led even more people to experience a passionate life in Christ. For every six people attending Keystone, one of them has demonstrated their devotion to Jesus Christ through baptism! Together, we have seen lives changed, marriages healed, and people inspired like never before.

Finishing strong with our 2-year $1 million Launch journey has set a strong foundation for the future of Keystone Church. Thanks to the sacrificial giving of those of us that participated in the Launch journey, we have been able to not only maximize our current campus, but enhance the Keystone experience as well.

As 2011 draws to a close, I want to take a moment thank you for financially partnering with Keystone to fuel the vision that God has given us. I also want to answer any questions that you might have about year-end giving. All contributions must be completed by December 31st. This year, December 31st falls on a Saturday, so the easiest way to ensure your charitable gifts are included on your 2011 giving statement is to give during one of our six Christmas services or this weekend, December 17/18th.

For those that give online via our website (www.keystonechurch.com), the gift must be entered and completed by December 31st.

If you would like to mail your contribution, you can mail to P.O. Box 2706 Keller, TX 76248. Please make sure to have your gifts postmarked by December 31st.

The 2011 contribution statements will be mailed by the end of January 2012.

Thank you for your commitment to God’s vision for our church. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at 817-431-8800.

CHEW ON THIS: Jesus Is ______ : Part 5

The most important thought you will ever think is what you think when you think of God

John 15
1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!

There’s a difference between EARNING God’s love and EXPERIENCING God’s love.

John 15
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. EXTERNAL FORCE or INTERNAL POWER?

Galatians 5
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

Who is your vine?

CHEW ON THIS: Jesus Is _______: Part 4

The most important thought you will ever think is what you think when you think of God

John 11
25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life.

John 11
1 A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. 2 This is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord’s feet and wiped them with her hair. Her brother, Lazarus, was sick. 3 So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.”
4 But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” 5 So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, 6 he stayed where he was for the next two days. 7 Finally, he said to his disciples,“Let’s go back to Judea.”
8 But his disciples objected. “Rabbi,” they said, “only a few days ago the people in Judea were trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”
9 Jesus replied, “There are twelve hours of daylight every day. During the day people can walk safely. They can see because they have the light of this world.10 But at night there is danger of stumbling because they have no light.” 11 Then he said, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but now I will go and wake him up.”
12 The disciples said, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will soon get better!” 13 They thought Jesus meant Lazarus was simply sleeping, but Jesus meant Lazarus had died.
14 So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. 15 And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.”
16 Thomas, nicknamed the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go, too—and die with Jesus.”
17 When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days. 18 Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem, 19 and many of the people had come to console Martha and Mary in their loss. 20 When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.

John 11
21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.”
23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.”

25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.” 28 Then she returned to Mary. She called Mary aside from the mourners and told her, “The Teacher is here and wants to see you.” 29 So Mary immediately went to him.
30 Jesus had stayed outside the village, at the place where Martha met him. 31When the people who were at the house consoling Mary saw her leave so hastily, they assumed she was going to Lazarus’s grave to weep. So they followed her there. 32 When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
33 When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled. 34 “Where have you put him?” he asked them.
They told him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Then Jesus wept. 36 The people who were standing nearby said, “See how much he loved him!” 37 But some said, “This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t he have kept Lazarus from dying?”
38 Jesus was still angry as he arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance. 39 “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.
But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”
40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” 41 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

Romans 6
4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

Romans 8
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

John 15
4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

FAITH is our CONNECTOR to the REZ LIFE!

Romans 10
17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

Chew On This: Jesus Is ______: Part 3

The most important thought you will ever think is what you think when you think of God

Jesus is: Good Shepherd

John 10
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. 12 A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. 13 The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep.

God, you are GOOD

Is GOD only GOOD… when he conforms to you?

Isaiah 53
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.
We have left God’s paths to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him
      the sins of us all.

Isaiah 53
7 He was oppressed and treated harshly,
yet he never said a word.
He was led like a lamb to the slaughter.
And as a sheep is silent before the shearers,
he did not open his mouth.
8 Unjustly condemned, he was led away.
No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people.
9 He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.
11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.
12 I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

God, you are my PROTECTOR

Matthew 10
16 “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.

1 Peter 5
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

2 Timothy 4
14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm, but the Lord will judge him for what he has done. 15 Be careful of him, for he fought against everything we said.

God, you are my PROVIDER

Rather than TASKS equal to my STRENGTH…
God, give me STRENGTH abundant for any TASK

Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
 2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
    3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
      bringing honor to his name.
 4 Even when I walk
      through the darkest valley,
   I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
   Your rod and your staff
      protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
      My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
      forever.

God, you are my RESCUE

John 10
14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, 15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.
17 “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. 18 No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”
19 When he said these things, the people were again divided in their opinions about him.

Are you TUNED IN to God’s voice?

Are you ready to SHEPHERD the SHEEP in your care?

The SHEPHERD became a SHEEP like us
so we SHEEP could SHEPHERD like him!

CHEW ON THIS: Jesus Is the Door

John 10:7-10 (NASB)
7 So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NLT)
13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hellt is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Acts 4:12 (NLT)
12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NLT)
5 For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.

John 3:16 (NLT)
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

John 10:9-10 (NASB)
9 I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
