Under the Hood

under-the-hood-blog

Has your check engine light ever come on when you’re driving?  Even though you know something is wrong, have you been ignoring it?  Maybe you’re experiencing less than peak performance?  Even worse, has there been a complete breakdown that has left you stranded? Actually, we’re not talking about cars here…we are talking about real men dealing with real issues and real life.  We live in a broken world and we are subject to sin that has shattered God’s original design for our lives.  It’s time for us to get ‘under the hood’ and gain an understanding of our life challenges and learn how to repair them. Once the challenges have been repaired in our lives, it is so important that there is a clear understanding of how high performance can be maintained in our lives. This spring, Keystone will be hosting a series of relevant and inspiring messages at Men’s Leadership Breakfast events.

Chew On It! Jesus Loves - Part 4

Chew on the scriptures from last weekends message.

Jesus Loves - Part 4 - The Adulterer (January 23/24, 2010)

Romans 5
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

God is against adultery

Exodus 20
14 You must not commit adultery.
17 You must not covet your neighbor’s wife

Proverbs 5
8 Stay away from her!
Don’t go near the door of her house!
9 If you do, you will lose your honor
and will lose to merciless people all you have achieved.
10 Strangers will consume your wealth,
and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
11 In the end you will groan in anguish
when disease consumes your body.
15 Drink water from your own well—
share your love only with your wife.
16 Why spill the water of your springs in the streets,
having sex with just anyone?
17 You should reserve it for yourselves.
Never share it with strangers.
18 Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.
Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
21 For the Lord sees clearly what a man does,
examining every path he takes.
22 An evil man is held captive by his own sins;
they are ropes that catch and hold him.
23 He will die for lack of self-control;
he will be lost because of his great foolishness.

Job 24
15 The adulterer waits for the twilight,
saying, ‘No one will see me then.’
He hides his face so no one will know him.

There is NO WIN for this SIN

Proverbs 6
29 So it is with the man who sleeps with another man’s wife.
He who embraces her will not go unpunished.
30 Excuses might be found for a thief
who steals because he is starving.
31 But if he is caught, he must pay back seven times what he stole,
even if he has to sell everything in his house.
32 But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool,
for he destroys himself.
33 He will be wounded and disgraced.
His shame will never be erased.
34 For the woman’s jealous husband will be furious,
and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35 He will accept no compensation,
nor be satisfied with a payoff of any size.

Deuteronomy 22
22 “If a man is discovered committing adultery, both he and the woman must die. In this way, you will purge Israel of such evil.

Matthew 5
28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

God knows your pain

Ezekiel 16
8…So I wrapped my cloak around you to cover your nakedness and declared my marriage vows. I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.

10 I gave you expensive clothing of fine linen and silk, beautifully embroidered, and sandals made of fine goatskin leather. 11 I gave you lovely jewelry, bracelets, beautiful necklaces, 12 a ring for your nose, earrings for your ears, and a lovely crown for your head. 13 And so you were adorned with gold and silver. Your clothes were made of fine linen and were beautifully embroidered. You ate the finest foods—choice flour, honey, and olive oil—and became more beautiful than ever. You looked like a queen, and so you were! 14 Your fame soon spread throughout the world because of your beauty. I dressed you in my splendor and perfected your beauty, says the Sovereign Lord.

15 “But you thought your fame and beauty were your own. So you gave yourself as a prostitute to every man who came along. Your beauty was theirs for the asking. 16 You used the lovely things I gave you to make shrines for idols, where you played the prostitute. Unbelievable! How could such a thing ever happen? 17 You took the very jewels and gold and silver ornaments I had given you and made statues of men and worshiped them. This is adultery against me! 18 You used the beautifully embroidered clothes I gave you to dress your idols. Then you used my special oil and my incense to worship them. 19 Imagine it! You set before them as a sacrifice the choice flour, olive oil, and honey I had given you, says the Sovereign Lord.

20 “Then you took your sons and daughters—the children you had borne to me—and sacrificed them to your gods. Was your prostitution not enough?

John 8
4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.
9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

1 John 1
8 If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. 9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.

A Sneak Peek at “Under the Hood”

By John Bain

If you have ever rebuilt a car engine before, you would know that it is a process that begins by taking it apart piece by piece from the outside in.  Once each piece has been disassembled, then each part has to be meticulously cleaned so that they can be measured and inspected to ensure that all the surfaces are smooth and that all the tolerances are correct.  The next part is putting it all back together piece by piece with a combination of old parts that have been re-machined and new parts.

It struck me that this is just like what a relationship with Jesus is.  We are broken, worn out and non-functioning as a result of the sin in our lives.  When we accept Jesus as our saviour and begin a relationship with Him, then He begins to disassemble our broken pieces.  He works through each part of our broken life washing it clean and smoothing out the rough edges.  Just as with rebuilding an engine, He puts our lives back together, changing us from the inside out.  He gives us a new heart, new appetites and new desires.  He gives new purpose and direction to the God-given gifts that you have had from the start.

This is why we are so passionately excited about our upcoming Men’s Leadership series, “Under the Hood”.  It is going to be a series of life changing, inspiring and equipping messages that you won’t want to miss.  If you need a complete overhaul, a tune-up or just an oil change, this will be the place for you!  We can’t wait to see you there.

Little Campers tasting and seeing that God is good

By Jan Franke

There are many things that bring joy to my heart, but none more than seeing children begin to have a heart for God and exhibit  their undying zeal to know more about Him.  This past weekend at Keystone my heart skipped a beat when I passed through the Little Campers area and saw such a picture that not only made me smile but I’m pretty sure that it was bringing a smile to our God.  It was such a sweet picture of our little ones………singing and praising God from their hearts.  Their innocent hearts and bright eyes were dancing as they were singing……..One way, Jesus…….You’re the only one that I could live for……..then to see them sign the verse ……The word of God is truth and right!   As their little arms/hands moved to sign this particular verse….I asked God to literally plant this Biblical truth in their little lives.

Our Little Campers’ leadership believes that God has called us to a special mission with our preschoolers to teach them weekly….Biblical truth through Bible Stories telling and Bible Verse memorization, consistently sharing with them about giving back to God and His church, praising and worshipping Him through our music and learning how to pray personally with Him.  We love that you are sharing your preschoolers with us and we are totally committed to “lead every preschooler to set the foundation in their lives to experience a passionate life in Christ!”

The Big Community Group Event

bigcgevent_blog

At Keystone it is our belief that if you want to connect and grow as a Christ Follower then a great way to accomplish this is to join a Community Group. By joining a Community Group, you will be fulfilled with the support and fellowship of friends as you grow together in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. It’s through Community Groups that Keystone Church will remain small in the midst of growing large.

Community Groups are perfect way to get plugged-in to the community of Keystone Church. We have groups around Keller as well as in Fort Worth and Southlake. Most of our groups meet every other week and you should be able to find one that fits your schedule.

On January 23/24th after each service you will have the opportunity to taste and see what Community Groups are all about. The church community space will be filled with tables that represent each group after each service.

On the 23rd/24th you will be able to:

  • Meet Community Group Facilitators and Hosts
  • Find out when and where Community Groups meet
  • Find a group of people that will encourage and walk through life with you
  • Get plugged into the heart and vision of Keystone
  • Sign up for a group

If you are new to Keystone or have been a member for a while and are not in a CG this is your chance to connect. This is a great way for you to get plugged in to the heart and vision of Keystone. Our new Community Group semester begins on January 31st.
